Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

What Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

At Hair by Dr. Max Restoration Center in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, we offer the safest, most effective, and most advanced hair restoration treatments that deliver real and long-lasting results. Among our treatment options, we offer Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy sessions to meet the needs of patients who want to ensure hair growth after a hair transplant by accelerating healing and naturally promoting optimal health.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, or HBOT, is a treatment during which patients are exposed to and breathe in oxygen in a specialized, pressurized environment. The treatment occurs in the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy chamber. Once the session begins, we’ll increase the air pressure within the chamber to two to three times higher than normal. Your lungs will gather more oxygen within the chamber than they could breathing in your normal environment.

Breathing in this extra oxygen triggers the release of growth factors and stem cells, and strengthens the immune system. It can also help the body create new collagen and skin cells, deliver oxygen into the brain, reduce inflammation, prevent reperfusion injury, block the harmful action of bacteria, and stimulate capillary growth by eliminating areas of hypoxia.

Preparing for Your HBOT Session

Once we confirm your treatment eligibility and schedule your sessions, we’ll provide you with some important directives about preparing for your session.

  • Avoiding Certain Medications

During your consultation, we'll get more information about any medications you're currently taking and then consider each individually regarding how they may interact with HBOT. You may need to temporarily avoid some of these medications, specifically those incompatible with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, including Adriamycin, Sulfamylon, and Bleomycin.

  • Watching for the Symptoms of a Cold and Illness

If you develop cold or flu symptoms, including fever, sore throat, cough, runny nose, cold sores, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever blisters, and general muscle aches, you must contact us before your scheduled treatment. The oxygen will not reduce these symptoms; we may need to postpone your treatment until those symptoms subside.

  • Avoiding Smoking

It's important that you avoid smoking before and after your treatment and quit if possible. Nicotine use causes the contraction of small blood vessels, which decreases oxygenation and blood circulation. Those who smoke have higher carbon monoxide levels compared to those who don't and will not experience all the benefits of oxygen therapy.

  • Avoiding Certain Cosmetics

You'll need to avoid using makeup, perfume, deodorant, hairspray, and even shaving lotion that contains petroleum or alcohol-based ingredients before your treatment.

  • Dressing Accordingly

When you come in for your session, you'll be provided with a 100% cotton gown to wear during your session. Cleanliness is of the utmost importance during the course of treatment. As a result, no other types of clothing can be worn in the chamber. You'll need to remove rings, watches, earrings, jewelry, and both soft and hard contact lenses, as well as prosthetic devices, before entering the chamber. Patients will, however, be able to wear glasses.

  • Enjoying Your Results

Results vary among patients based on their treatment plans and treatment goals. Due to the nature of the treatment, no specific number of sessions generates the best results. The treatment depends on each patient's needs; however, scheduling frequency and consistency are important parts of experiencing results. Some patients experience immediate results, while others may not notice improvements until a few days to weeks into treatment. Several factors can influence results, including: Individual medical conditions Lifestyle factors Diet Age Smoking status

How Does It Work?

The Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy treatment process includes several steps. You’ll begin with an initial consultation to confirm your eligibility and then proceed with the recommended sessions. We can give you more details about what you can expect, how soon you’ll notice the benefits, and how many treatments it will take to achieve the best results.

Your Initial Consultation

The first step in this process is your initial consultation. We’ll schedule a time to meet with you to discuss the type of hair loss you’ve experienced and any treatments or procedures you’ve undergone to restore your hair, and then give you more details about HBOT. We’ll also use this time to gather information about your medical history to confirm that this treatment will be an effective option for you.

Scheduling Your Treatments

Once we confirm your treatment eligibility, we’ll schedule your first two to three sessions in advance and any additional sessions necessary based on your personalized treatment plan. HBOT sessions take approximately 90 minutes. We can schedule your appointments on multiple consecutive days if necessary and will make every effort to work around your availability.

Am I a Good Candidate?

If you want to accelerate healing after a hair transplant and experience all the added benefits of HBOT, you may be the perfect candidate for this treatment. Patients should be healthy, not pregnant, and free of lung disease. We can confirm your treatment eligibility before moving forward with a customized treatment plan.
